We Will Be At Riot Fest Chicago!

WHOA, BABY. SNORT, YEEEEAAAAAHHH!!! That is the sound of us being BEYOND stoked to officially be a part of one of the BIGGEST music festivals of the Summer: Riot Fest Chicago! I suppose it’s technically the biggest music fest of the Fall, since it takes place on September 11-13th. But knowing the way wacky weather works in Chicago, we’ll most likely FEEL like Summertime! [cue Sublime’s ‘Summertime’]

We're ready to riot! I based this Snort Monster Riot Fest poster design on the art of Jamie Reid, English artist most notably known for his work on the Sex Pistols' albums. He is credited with establishing the ransom-note décollage form of artwork that has become the rough 'n' tumble aesthetic of punk music. YEAH! I was going to do the design from start-to-finish on Photoshop, but then I realized there's no better way to get that torn-up-ransom-note look than to actually tear up some paper and get into it, baby! Then I waited for some super hot sun to get high contrast lighting and sharp shadows, pieced together the poster on our rough driveway for texture, and then photographed away. It was good to get away from designing on the computer for a little while. I hope you enjoy its punk aesthetic while being VERY informed about Riot Fest. :D

Now, I (Aireen) gotta admit: I am basically a music festival virgin. Most of my friends rock out at every music fest of the season. But then I read about the history of this punk rock music fest, and I realized the DIY spirit of Snort Monster makes us a very punk brand! Wise ol’ Wikipedia says, “Riot Fest began in Chicago in 2005…” [WHOOOO! Chi-town YEAH!] “…started by music fanatics with a yen for DIY shows and low ticket prices catering to fans of underground music.” Excellent.

Jeff and I have an entrepreneurial, DIY mindset. Heck, we literally screen print our tees from inside our house, renegade-style! And we wanted to share our love for Snort Monsters with other Snort-faced-doggie fanatics while giving back to hard-working rescues.

We realize Riot Fest has grown quite a bit since its small, ragtag beginnings. At $190 for a 3-day pass, it’s no bloomin’ flower of a fest. But from what we’ve seen, the ragtag spirit remains the same. We hope to connect with fellow rioters and revelers and share the love of Snort Monsters with even more of Chicago!

Just look at that lineup. Tell us there isn't ONE band you want to see on there. No Doubt? Iggy Pop? Billy Idol? Modest Mouse?? The Prodigy?? Snoop Dogg??? WOW. This is craziness!

To make this an extra special experience for our customers, Jeff and I are brainstorming like crazy, left and right, night and day, in and out, and we plan on unleashing brand new, rockin’, punk, and Chicago-centric litters. We also plan on offering brand new gear we’ve never had before! (Hmmm, like what? I don’t know, maybeeeee… HATS?? Sunglasses?? GAH! You tell US what YOU wanna see!)

We’re also thinking of some super fun contests and giveaways leading up to the fest and during the 3-day long punk party.

Have you been to Riot Fest or any other festivals? What do you love? What do you hate? What do you want to see us offer? Which bands are you excited about? We’re very much in the ideation process, so if you have some insight for us, we want to hear from you! Tell us newbs what to do! We value what you have to say, so if you’ve got something to say, let us know by commenting below. Thanks for reading!
